Varietal: Blended Red Wine (Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon)
Region: California – USA
Cost: $8 – $10
Dark coloring with forward flavors of fruit and cherry with a smooth finish. Â Pairs well with chicken, pork, and sharp cheeses.
Recommendations: I picked up this wine with a pretty good idea of what to expect, and not necessarily in a negative way. Â I’m a firm believer that there’s a niche and drinker for every wine, and while I might not like them all, it doesn’t mean that others don’t.
There are plenty plenty of wine drinkers like myself, ones that run websites voicing our opinions, that look down on wines that know their niche and don’t aspire to more. Â I am not one of those people. Â With that in mind I opened up the bottle of Middle Sister Rebel Red.
My wife and I were hosting our brother and his wife for a post-Christmas get together and that meant the wine was flowing. Â I had purchased the Middle Sister wine figuring it was going to be very similar to Menage a Trois’ red wine – and it was.
Fruit forward in the style of many California red wines with big flavors of cherry, the wine was perfectly fine for sipping at while enjoying some good company. Â While certainly not a game-changing life-altering wine, Middle Sister does a great job of working its way into the affordable table wine niche and not trying to be something it’s not.
If you’re a fan of the Menage a Trois line of wines than you should certainly give Middle Sister a look. Â Worth picking up for a casual night at home when you want something simple and straight forward.
