Winemaker’s Notes: A lively straw yellow with faint greenish highlights. Fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, fresh and intense, with a broad fruity note of ripe Golden Delicious apples and wild flowers, underpinned by a delicate scent of yeast. Harmonious and well-balanced, with an attractive undertone of ripe fruits and hints of crusty bread.

My Review: I’ve been fortunate enough to taste several wines from Ferrari before, and with them recently being named Winery of the Year 2019 by Gambero Rosso, I was given the chance to sample their Brut Sparkling Wine. Given how close we were are to the most sparkling wine time of the year, I couldn’t exactly pass that up.

Also, given that my wife and I never need an excuse to open up sparkling wine, we popped it open on a Wednesday….because why not?

In the glass the wine was light yellow color, with slashes of green showing in the light. On the nose I picked up notes of apple and yeast. In the mouth the bubbles were quite large, and I got flavors of crisp, juicy apple and a touch of the yeasty/bread notes that I got on the nose.

While I’m sure this wine would be great with something creamy or delicate, we actually opened the wine with spicy wings that I had been cooking in my smoker all afternoon. It was something of a departure, and while I don’t know that it was the best pairing (they were fairly spicy wings and something sweeter probably would have been a better pairing), the Ferrari Trento Brut is great on its own, and was certainly refreshing enough.

If you haven’t already picked up your sparkling wine for New Years Eve, this is certainly one worth looking at for your midnight toast – it’s a good price (especially given the cases of wine you’re probably buying for the night), but great for any night of the week, not just the start of a new year.

Editor’s Note: I received this wine as a free sample for review.
