Variety:Â 100% Malbec
Region: Mendoza, Argentina
Cost: $21 (SRP)
Winemaker’s Notes:Â Vigorous red with violet tints. The aromatic profile expresses the sharpness of red fruits such as raspberries and strawberries. Complex and intense in the nose, achieving an excellent balance with oak. The palate is pleasant, sweet, and profound, with vibrant tannins. Juicy and persistent finish.
My Review: I have to admit, I really enjoyed this wine. For a while I avoided Malbecs; not because I don’t enjoy the wine, but I felt like it was going the way that California Cabernet did – too much fruit to the point that everything else was lost. Fortunately, I feel like winemaker’s are showing restraint now, and the 2015Â Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec is an example of that.
In the glass it was a deep red with hints of purple, and on the nose I picked up sweet red fruits. In the mouth the wine showed a good roundness of fruit, but balanced by a hint of tartness to prevent it from becoming too sweet, while still allowing it to linger in the mouth.
Paired with some grilled meat the wine was quite enjoyable, providing a balance to the char and smoke the meat picked up from the grill, making it a great wine to pick up as we head into the grilling season as you have friends over for backyard bbq’s.
Editor’s Note: I received this wine as a free sample for review.
