Varietal: Â Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Â Argentina
Cost:Â $10
Winemaker’s Notes: Â Arge & Tina Cabernet Sauvignon has a tomato and herbal aroma. It’s somewhat green and sweet, with a raw feel and tannic bite. Tastes of tomato and herbal red plum. Feels light on the finish. Pair with red meats, pasta, and hearty stews.
My Review: Â So, cards on the table – I totally bought this wine because the name made me laugh. Well, that’s mostly true. I was buying steak for dinner and, while I had some wine at home, I thought I would see what else was available at my local The Fresh Market. While we didn’t end up drinking this wine with dinner, it certainly would have gone with it, and like I said…the name made me laugh.
In the glass the wine was a nice dark red color – somewhat brick-ish with just a touch or purple streaking through. On the nose I picked up notes of herb, while in the mouth the wine was dry, the herb from the nose continuing through and being joined by dark plum notes and a hint of tomato that I for one never picked up on the nose.
We didn’t pair this with any food, but it would have been great with the steaks that I’d bought it with, as well as some pasta or, to be honest, a variety of grilled meats. For $10 it’s definitely a great value buy – when I buy inexpensive Cabernet I usually expect a fruit bomb and this wine showed far more character than I would have guessed.
As the weather (eventually) turns warm, I’d definitely see myself grabbing more of this wine just to have around for a variety of meals or just to sip on. I think it would appeal to anybody looking for a non-California Fruit Bomb Cabernet that doesn’t want to spend a lot of money to get it.
Worth checking out because let’s be honest, at worst, you don’t like it and it’s only $10.
